Regarding the import/export: after talking with produce managers, I know that many grocers in SB have the food taken from SB to LA where it is inspected in the warehouse and then shipped back to SB where it get put on display with a "local" tag or whatever. They have tried to change this or come up with a workaround, but due to safety concerns and company policy, they cannot avoid this. Pretty sill right??!?!?

Looks yummy, Charity! I picked almost all of my quinoa a couple days ago because I saw that some of the seeds were dry and falling on the ground. Since not all the seeds in each flower were dry, I used the dehydrator to finish the job. I've been spending a few minutes here and there pouring the seeds back and forth between two bowls to winnow out the chaff. When it's all done, I think it will be barely over a cup of grain!
